Space Force PCS Guide: Entitlements, Orders, and Checklist

The Space Force is small, so a Guardian PCS mostly runs on Department of the Air Force plumbing: AFPC, your servicing personnel office, and myFSS. Here is what you are owed and how your orders and out-processing actually work, minus the parts nobody explains.

What a Space Force PCS actually pays

These entitlements come from the Joint Travel Regulations, so they are set by your rank, your dependents, and your distance, not by your branch. What changes between services is how you claim them.

  • DLA (Dislocation Allowance)

A flat payment set by pay grade and dependency status, roughly $1,871 to $6,386. No receipts required, but you have to claim it.

  • MALT (mileage)

$0.205 per mile when you drive, calculated on official distance rather than your odometer.

  • Per diem (travel days)

Up to $178 per travel day at the standard CONUS rate, with reduced rates for dependents by age.

  • TLE (temporary lodging, CONUS)

Reimburses actual lodging and meals for up to 21 days, up to $290 per day. Keep every receipt.

  • TLA (temporary lodging, OCONUS)

The overseas equivalent, commonly authorized up to about 60 days depending on your location.

  • PPM / DITY incentive

Move yourself and the government pays 100% of what it would have cost them to ship your weight. Certified weight tickets are mandatory.

How Space Force orders actually work

01

Assignment, then acknowledge

Because the Space Force runs on Department of the Air Force systems, the flow mirrors the Air Force: you are notified of the assignment and you acknowledge it so orders can be drafted.

02

Orders drafted and authenticated

Your servicing personnel office drafts the order and AFPC authenticates it. Exceptions to policy route through myFSS. A small force usually means more predictable cycles, but the paperwork path is the same.

03

Out-process and file

Clear your out-processing checklist (finance, TMO, medical, housing), then file your DD 1351-2 after you in-process. That voucher is where DLA, per diem, and mileage are claimed.

Space Force PCS gotchas

  • You are on Air Force systems, so use myFSS for PCS actions and exceptions rather than chasing a paper trail.

  • Ask finance for a DLA advance before you move so the money is there when you need it.

  • A limited number of bases does not mean limited entitlements. You are owed the same DLA, MALT, per diem, TLE, and PPM as any other service.

  • PPM pays 100% of the government constructed cost with certified weight tickets. Keep them.

Working the timeline

Most Guardians start too late. Household goods, housing, medical records, and finance all have their own lead times, and they do not run in parallel as nicely as you would hope. Start about 90 days out.

Space Force PCS questions

How does a Space Force PCS work?

Guardians move on Department of the Air Force systems. Assignments run through Space Force talent management, your servicing personnel office drafts the orders, AFPC authenticates them, and self-service actions go through myFSS.

Do Guardians get the same PCS entitlements as everyone else?

Yes. DLA, MALT mileage, per diem, TLE, and PPM are set by the Joint Travel Regulations based on your rank, dependents, and distance, not by branch.

How much will my Space Force PCS pay?

It depends on your grade, dependents, and how far you are moving. A personalized playbook computes DLA, mileage, per diem, lodging, and any PPM incentive for your exact orders.
